OUR HISTORY

Central Bible Church is in its seventh decade of faithfully proclaiming God’s Word in Aurora, IL.

Central Bible Church was formed when two smaller congregations (The Aurora Bible Church and Central Baptist Church) saw an opportunity to have a greater impact in the community and voted to merge in December of 1945. The first Sunday morning service was held on January 6, 1946 in the rented building formerly occupied by Central Baptist at 307 W. Galena Blvd.

Within five years lots had been purchased at our present location, 940 W. Galena Blvd. and plans were being formulated for a building to call our own. As the new church outgrew the rental facilities where it initially met, it was necessary to meet for a season at the Mary A. Todd Grade School until the new building was completed. In June of 1952, ground was broken on the project and a year later the first services were held in the new building. Less than a decade later, continued growth would necessitate expansion to add more educational space.

Central has made a priority of ministering to children as one of the earliest churches in America to adopt the AWANA program. We also have a rich history of supporting both foreign and domestic missions, and an ongoing commitment to preaching and teaching the Bible in order to see lives transformed by the power of God. Leadership stability has been another hallmark at CBC: Pastor Gary Hollinger was installed as only the seventh senior pastor in our history just a few days before our seventieth anniversary.

Over the years God has blessed CBC with thousands of kids and adults coming through our doors to hear the Good News of Jesus and we are looking forward to what He will do in the coming years.

We invite you to come and be a part of a church where the Bible is Central to Life.
