A Special Message about Cancer

When Pastor Ken discovered that he had cancer, he created the following brochure out of concern for others struggling with cancer. His personal struggle ended on November 18th, 2005. Pastor Ken is home with his Savior. Copies of the brochure can be downloaded below in pdf format. Printed copies are available by contacting Central Bible Church.

"I have cancer." For thirty two years I have been a pastor. I have heard those words many times.

I Have Cancer Cover photo

  • I have stood with people as the doctor announced these heart-stopping words.
  • I have listened to people say these frightening words and cried with them.
  • I have sat with people and talked about the issues involved, “Why me? How can I help myself get better? What happens if I die?”
“I have cancer.” I have been on the “outside” of those words – until now. Now, I am on the “inside.” I am the one saying the words. The “I” is me. The positive-thinking encouragements, the comforting words, the tears I have cried for their pain – are now being directed to me.

Now I find that what I have said to others I am saying to myself. Would you allow me to say a few of them to you — whether or not you have cancer?

Bad things, including disease and death, are the result of sin. Not our individual sin – although we are all sinners – but because we are part of a sin-filled world. Sin has ruined everything including our relationship with God.

If you are or have been in the cancer battle, then we are in this thing together! It is good to know that you are not alone. That is one of the reasons why it is so important to know that your support system begins with trusting Jesus Christ as your Savior - the Forgiver of sin and the giver of Life -- He will never leave us. The Bible says, ". . . because God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.' So we can say with confidence, ' The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?" (NIV) That's good. We can use that - you and I.
