John 3:16 NIV
Central Bible Church
What we believe
God eternally exists in three persons; the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became a sinless man without ceasing in any way to be God. By His death, burial and resurrection He did everything that is needed to forgive our sin, to declare us to be righteous forever before God and to freely give eternal life to everyone who will trust Him for it.
The Holy Spirit convicts people of their sinfulness before God,
| "Salvation is the free gift of God's grace." |
Salvation is the result of our being born again. We are made alive spiritually as children of God.
Each saved person possesses two natures, the sin nature that we were born with physically and the spirit nature that we were born with spiritually at the moment of salvation. God provides all that is necessary for us to live in the spirit. He produces in our lives those qualities that reflect godliness.
Each saved person has been given spiritual gifts to enable him to serve God well. The Jewish "sign gifts," such as tongues and special miracles ceased as the New Testament Scriptures were completed and their authority was validated.
The Church is the "body of Christ" on the earth. It is distinct from Israel and is the entity through which God is ministering to the world today.
The Bible tells us clearly that God has specific purposes that He will fulfill in the world. The Lord Jesus Christ will call His church out of the world to meet Him in the air. A time of tribulation will come upon the earth as God resumes His purpose for Israel and the world at large. After this seven year period of trouble, Jesus Christ descends from Heaven and establishes His one thousand year kingdom on earth. After one more rebellion of sin inspired mankind, there will be the new heaven and new earth in which sin is forever eliminated.
Satan introduced sin into the creation by rebelling against God. He introduced sin into the human line by drawing us, through Adam and Eve, into his rebellion. Satan, the angels who followed him in sin and people who reject God's provision of salvation will all be cast from God's presence forever in hell and eventually in the "lake of fire."
That's the basics of what we believe. You can read the complete Doctrinal Statement here.
Here's a summary of how we, Central Bible Church came into existence in January of 1946. It was the result of two churches, Central Baptist Church and Aurora Bible Church, merging. The new church immediately became part of the I.F.C.A., Independent Fundamental Churches of America. We are part of that association of churches to this day. Robert Kinney was the first Pastor of Central Bible Church and remained its Pastor until 1967. The original building at 940 West Galena Boulevard and the education addition were built during Pastor Kinney's many years at Central. In 1996 C.B.C. celebrated its Fiftieth Anniversary. The motto for the celebration was, "Celebrating our heritage, Anticipating our Future" It remains an expression of our attitude toward our past and our future.
Central Bible Church also participates in a group of seven churches in our local area known as the Area Bible Churches (A.B.C.). We jointly sponsor leadership seminars, hymn-sings and occasional special projects and events. That's the basics of what we are.
For more information please phone the church or write to us. We would be glad to talk with you personally about any of your questions or concerns.
